I'll summarize in a point form:
Insurance can claim or not?
- The one who told to me, a burning vehicle while "parking / abandoned" does not in-cover by insurance. This case is a case of natural disasters.
- Vehicles on fire while being driven, the insurance will cover but without the reduction of your NCD.
[] So, in the Fire / Police report, be sure to write: Car on fire while driving
Fire Report
- Fire Report should be made if there was attendance of firemen officers @ crew team to the location. Some insurance companies require a fire report for insurance claims.
- All details must be submitted to the fire station within 14 days.
- Fire Report Form will be given by officers in the Fire Team
- The report should also be accompanied by a letter to Fire Department regarding the estimated property loss.
- To take a report, you have to pay RM 100
[] If possible, create an appendix for the list of property that was destroyed & the estimated losses. Write in detail. Example:
The list of properties destroyed & Budget losses
1. Bonnet - RM XXX.XX
2. Bonnet Screw - RM XX.XX
3. Bonnet Clips - RM XX.XX
- Why need to be so detail?
In my case, I do not detail all of the item. The total losses was estimated just two thousand only (bonnet, bumper, headlamp & grill). But when the car is ready to take, I asked a list of items changed / improved from Perodua. The actual number is almost RM 10 thousand. Fortunately, it is under insurance liability ...
Police Report
- Create a comprehensive report covering all aspects (the chronology of events)
- Calm down when lodge the police report
Ending:
- Make sure you have a fire extinguisher inside the vehicle or home.
- Fire extinguishers (APA) is the best. Because it covers almost all kind of fire. ABC type produce dry and fine chemical. It is sensitive to people who have a problem with skin.
- If not able to purchase the APA type, you can still get the ABC type. The price is around RM 60 / 70.
[] If the facts are less precise, please tell me so that it can be corrected.
